Acana Wild Atlantic features an impressive 70% wild-caught fish, including five fresh fish in whole prey ratios that include muscle meat, organ meat, and cartilage: Atlantic mackerel, Atlantic herring, Acadian redfish, silver hake, and yellowtail flounder! Cold water, oily fish such as mackerel and herring are excellent sources of anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids. Whole red lentils, whole pinto beans, and whole green peas provide low-glycemic carbohydrates that help to stabilize blood sugar levels. A variety of colorful produce and green leafy vegetables—including whole pumpkin, whole butternut squash, apples, pears, carrots, kale, and mustard greens—provide such an abundance of vitamins and minerals that there are only two supplements added to this diet: zinc and copper! Botanicals such as rosehips and sarsaparilla root provide nutrients that a dog in the wild could encounter either by foraging or by eating the stomach contents of prey animals. This all-life-stages diet is a fantastic choice for puppies and adult dogs with sensitivities to poultry or red meat proteins and for dogs with dry, itchy skin!

About The Manufacturer

Acana is a high-meat, low-carbohydrate dry dog food line produced by Champion Pet Foods, a Canadian pet food company that specializes in making Biologically Appropriate pet diets: diets that are as close as possible to what the animal would naturally eat in the wild. All Champion Pet Food diets are made according to the whole prey model, which includes muscle meat, organ meat, bone, and cartilage in the diet. The whole prey model provides abundant sources of naturally-occurring amino acids, vitamins, and minerals, meaning that very few synthetic supplements have to be added to make the diet complete and balanced for your pet! Naturally-occurring nutrients are more bio-available than are synthetics, and are therefore of greater use to the body. Acana features fresh, regionally sourced ingredients that are preservative free and that are delivered to Champion Pet Food’s kitchens within two days of harvest. Acana dog diets feature 70% meat, and 30% fruits, vegetables, and botanicals.

Transition Instructions
It takes time to transition your pet to a new food without having digestive upset. Over the course of one to two weeks, you should gradually switch from the old food to the new. Start with a 75% old to 25% new mix, then 50:50, and finally 25:75, until you have switched to your pet's new food entirely.
